I’m putting y’all on notice. Ted Cruz birther tweets get you unfollowed. That ish will backfire on us hard.

I get it. The amount of time mainstream news gave to the bubbling stream of horse crap (apologies to horse crap) that came out of the mouths of Donald Trump, Joe Arpaio, Kent Sorenson and every hack pol in desperate need of air time and medication about the validity of President Obama’s birth certificate made me nauseous. It was the lowest of low arguments that reeked of racism and sore loserdom.

I get it. It would feel sooooo goooood to throw it back in the faces of the Tea Partiers who stood outside our rallies with signs and chants. I’ve been working so so so hard on keeping my rhetoric positive and talking about and encouraging the good I see instead of slamming the bad I see. It’s easier to slam the bad. It’s quicker. More seductive…

I can't even

But when we turn anger into tactics, we stoop down that level. We’d be slinging crap with them and they throw better than we do. Because the politicians and activists at this level, on both sides, it’s very often the only tool they have in their chest. Not all Tea Party/CCI folk are like this. Many of them have legitimate grievances and views on how to run a republic. But I’m not talking about them. I’m talking about those who have a need for attention and Paxil.

From Black Flag’s 1981 album Damaged:

Jealous cowards try to control
Rise above
We’re gonna rise above
They distort what we say
Rise above
We’re gonna rise above
Try and stop what we do
Rise above
When they can’t do it themselves

Emphasis mine. Be better, friends, and have a great week.
