I’d like to wrap this up on a high note, but alas. I cannot. I’m not even going to post full website pictures. Just how they look on a mobile device which, if you haven’t noticed, people are using everywhere all the time. You’ll see what I’m talking about.

Bruce Braley – Democrat

Detail level Full site, multiple pages
CMS Zissou by Liberty Concepts
Responsive No-
Call to action Email signup form and donate button but they’re done wrong. I’ll explain.
Notes

Splash page every time I visit the site. Bad bad bad. Screens smaller than mine have to scroll down to find the link that goes through to the full website. Once I click through there is a good amount of content, though nothing in about a month. Colors and section padding needs lots of work. The “author portrait” in the blog section is just the logo. If you aren’t going to have pictures of the people who write this there (ps you should) then take it out and give the content a little more room. That navigation bar background is a very narrow tiled .jpg with some noise filters on it. This .jpg needs to be wider so the same noise pattern isn’t so obvious.

GRADE: C

Matt Whitaker – Republican

Detail level Full site, multiple pages
CMS WordPress, “Modular” theme
Responsive The theme is, but they ignore that.
Call to action Yes, in very awkward looking buttons. “Invest” in Matt for US Senate instead of donate. How Republican.
Notes

Massive header graphic. It’s so huge I can’t get past it. The website looks like absolute garbage on a mobile screen. Name cut off, picture cut off. Slideshow won’t appear.

GRADE: D because it loads.
